Mixing Guidance

Prepare the work area before mixing, as this concrete has a short working time.

Use a mechanical mixing method, such as a slow-speed drill and paddle. Carefully add one 20kg bag to 2–3 litres of clean water, depending on the required workability. Typically, 2.5 litres produces a slow-flowing concrete.

Mix for at least 3 minutes until a uniform consistency is achieved. Apply immediately after mixing and within 5 minutes. The concrete begins to set within approximately 10–15 minutes.

Do not add water to revive material that has begun to set.

Preparation and Application

Surfaces must be clean and free from contamination. For best results, mechanically roughen the substrate, then saturate with clean water and remove any standing water.

Trowel or pour the concrete into place and gently tamp it to achieve compaction. Float-finish exposed surfaces, ensuring any voids are filled.

Where the backfill will receive a separate surface layer, follow the Product Data Sheet and project specification for finishing level, tack coat and surfacing requirements.

Do not use below 5°C or where ground frost is present. Below 10°C, allow extra time before opening to traffic or applying further loads. Protect against rapid drying caused by strong sunlight or drying winds.

Storage

Store unopened bags in cool, dry conditions, raised off the ground on a pallet or shelf and protected from wind and rain.

FAQ

The MudMixer is a continuous-feed concrete mixer designed to mix bagged concrete, mortar and other cement-based materials quickly and consistently. Unlike traditional drum mixers, it continuously mixes material as you work, helping reduce downtime and increase productivity on site.

The name MudMixer comes from the construction industry’s long-standing use of the word mud to describe materials such as mortar, concrete, cement mixes and other wet construction products. While “mud” isn’t literally soil or earth, it’s a common term used by builders and tradespeople, particularly in North America, to refer to mixed cement-based materials.

Despite its name, the MudMixer isn’t designed for mixing soil or clay. It’s engineered to continuously mix a wide range of bagged construction materials, including concrete, mortar and sand-and-cement mixes, delivering a consistent, high-quality mix directly where you need it.

The name reflects the machine’s original roots, but its performance makes it an ideal solution for professional builders, landscapers, groundworkers, fencing contractors and anyone looking to mix concrete or mortar faster and more efficiently.

Simply load bagged material into the hopper, adjust the integrated water supply and the MudMixer continuously produces mixed material as required. There’s no need to stop and reload after every batch, making it significantly faster than conventional drum mixers.

The MudMixer is suitable for most pre-bagged:

* Concrete
* Mortar
* Sand and cement mixes
* Floor screeds (where manufacturer recommendations allow)
* Other cement-based bagged products

Always follow the material manufacturer’s guidance and ensure the product is suitable for continuous mixing.

While experienced DIY users can benefit from the MudMixer, it has been designed primarily for professional contractors, builders, landscapers, groundworkers and civil engineering teams who regularly work with bagged materials.

The MudMixer can process over 80 standard bags per hour under optimum working conditions, allowing you to keep working without the stop-start delays of traditional batch mixing. See the full MudMixer specifications or use our Concrete Calculator to estimate the material required for your next project.
