Description
High Strength Bedding Mortar for Precast Concrete Installation
High Strength Bedding Mortar combines selected sands, cements and additives to produce a strong, low-shrinkage mortar for precast installation work. Factory-produced for consistent quality, it can be applied as a bedding layer or packed into existing gaps.
Suitable for application thicknesses of 10–75mm, it provides structural support beneath and between precast concrete units without the need for shuttering.
Suitable Applications
Structural bedding and gap packing for precast concrete units, including:
- Sandwich wall panels.
- Dock leveller pit segments.
- L-walls.
- Lift shaft and stair cores.
Key Features
- High compressive strength: typical performance of 30 N/mm² at 24 hours, rising to 70 N/mm² after 28 days.
- Low-shrinkage formulation: designed for precast bedding and packing applications.
- Chloride-free formulation: suitable for use with steel reinforcement.
- 10–75mm application thickness: suitable for bedding layers and filling gaps.
- Adjustable consistency: prepare for dry packing or a more workable mortar within the specified water limits.
- 20kg bags: supplied in protective, recyclable packaging.

Mixing Guidance
Use a mechanical mixing method, such as a slow-speed drill and paddle or a forced-action mixer.
For dry packing, add approximately 2.4–2.8 litres of water per 20kg bag. Up to 3.3 litres may be used where a more workable mortar is required. Mix for at least 3 minutes until a uniform consistency is achieved.
Use the mixed mortar within 30 minutes. Do not add further water to revive mortar that has begun to set.
Preparation and Application
Surfaces must be clean and free from contamination. For best results, mechanically roughen the surfaces, then saturate with clean water and remove any standing water.
Apply a uniform mortar bed before lowering the precast unit into place, or pack the mortar into existing gaps using a suitable tool. Fully compact the mortar to achieve complete bedding.
Allow the mortar to stiffen before finishing flush with a damp trowel. Protect exposed mortar with an appropriate curing membrane, damp hessian or polythene.
Do not use below 5°C or where ground frost is present or expected overnight. Below 10°C, allow extra time before removing supports or applying further loads. Protect against rapid drying caused by strong sunlight or drying winds.
Storage
Store unopened bags in cool, dry conditions, raised off the ground on a pallet or shelf and protected from wind and rain.
