Mudmixer UK Ltd is committed to promoting the safe use of the products we supply.

This page provides general safety information for products purchased from www.mudmixer-uk.co.uk, including the MudMixer Evolution Continuous Concrete Mixer, accessories, replacement parts and Slurry Tub cleaning equipment.

Construction equipment, electrically powered machinery, cement, concrete and concrete slurry can present significant risks if handled incorrectly.

This information is intended to supplement, not replace:

  • the manufacturer’s operating manual;

  • safety instructions supplied with the Product;

  • warning labels attached to the Product;

  • applicable workplace health and safety requirements;

  • appropriate risk assessments and method statements; and

  • the user’s own training and professional judgement.

Always read the operating instructions supplied with a Product before assembling, operating, cleaning, maintaining or repairing it.

Important Safety Notice

The MudMixer Evolution is powered construction equipment.

Incorrect assembly, operation, cleaning or maintenance may result in serious personal injury, electrical injury or damage to property or equipment.

Do not operate the machine unless you understand how to use it safely.

If you are unsure about any aspect of installation, operation, maintenance or safety, stop and seek appropriate guidance before using the Product.

Intended Use

Products supplied by Mudmixer UK Ltd should only be used for their intended purpose and in accordance with the manufacturer’s instructions.

The MudMixer Evolution must not be:

  • modified for an unintended application;

  • operated outside the manufacturer’s stated operating parameters;

  • used with safety guards or safety devices removed or bypassed;

  • operated when damaged or suspected to be unsafe; or

  • used contrary to warnings or instructions supplied with the machine.

Never modify the electrical, mechanical or structural components of the machine unless the modification has been expressly approved by the manufacturer.

Competent Operators

Powered construction equipment should only be operated by persons who are competent to use it safely.

Operators should:

  • understand the operating controls;

  • understand the emergency stopping procedure;

  • understand the risks associated with moving machinery;

  • understand the risks associated with electricity and wet working environments;

  • understand the hazards associated with cement and concrete;

  • be physically capable of operating the equipment safely; and

  • follow appropriate site safety procedures.

The Website and our customer-support information are not substitutes for appropriate training.

Read the Operating Manual

The operating manual supplied with the Product should be read before first use.

Particular attention should be given to:

  • safety warnings;

  • assembly instructions;

  • electrical requirements;

  • operating procedures;

  • cleaning instructions;

  • maintenance requirements;

  • prohibited uses; and

  • emergency procedures.

Keep the operating manual available for future reference and make it available to anyone who uses the equipment.

Pre-Use Inspection

Before each use, carry out an appropriate visual inspection of the equipment.

Check, where applicable:

  • electrical cables;

  • plugs and connectors;

  • controls and switches;

  • guards;

  • wheels and supports;

  • fasteners and fixings;

  • hopper components;

  • chute components;

  • moving parts; and

  • the general condition of the machine.

Do not use the Product if you identify damage, excessive wear, loose components, missing guards or any other condition that may make operation unsafe.

Suspected electrical defects should be assessed by a suitably competent person.

Electrical Safety

Water, wet concrete and electrically powered equipment require particular care.

Always follow the electrical requirements stated in the manufacturer’s instructions and on the Product’s rating information.

Before connecting the MudMixer Evolution to an electrical supply:

  • inspect the power cable and plug for damage;

  • ensure the supply is suitable for the Product;

  • ensure connections are protected from water and wet concrete;

  • ensure cables are positioned to minimise trip and damage risks; and

  • follow any protective-device requirements specified by the manufacturer.

Never use damaged electrical cables, plugs or connectors.

Do not pull or carry equipment by its power cable.

Do not make unauthorised electrical modifications.

Electrical repairs should only be undertaken by a suitably competent person.

Extension Leads and Power Supplies

Only use extension leads, generators, transformers or other power-supply equipment that is suitable for the MudMixer Evolution and the conditions in which it will be operated.

Incorrect or undersized electrical equipment may create:

  • overheating;

  • voltage drop;

  • equipment malfunction;

  • cable damage;

  • fire risk; or

  • electrical hazards.

Always follow the electrical specifications and limitations stated in the manufacturer’s documentation.

If you are uncertain whether a particular power supply, extension lead or generator is suitable, obtain competent advice before operating the machine.

Safe Working Area

Before operating powered equipment, ensure the working area is suitable.

The machine should be positioned in accordance with the manufacturer’s instructions on a surface capable of supporting it safely.

Keep the surrounding area:

  • reasonably level where required;

  • free from unnecessary obstructions;

  • appropriately illuminated;

  • clear of avoidable trip hazards; and

  • sufficiently separated from members of the public and unauthorised persons.

Consider how materials will be loaded, how mixed material will be discharged and how operators will move around the machine.

Children and Unauthorised Persons

Children must not operate or play with the MudMixer Evolution or other powered construction equipment.

Keep children, visitors and unauthorised persons a safe distance from machinery while it is:

  • operating;

  • connected to power;

  • being cleaned;

  • undergoing maintenance; or

  • otherwise capable of creating a hazard.

Personal Protective Equipment

Appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE) should be selected according to the Product, materials being handled and working environment.

Depending on the activity, suitable PPE may include:

  • safety footwear;

  • work gloves;

  • eye protection;

  • suitable work clothing;

  • hearing protection; and

  • respiratory protective equipment where required by the relevant risk assessment.

PPE should be suitable for the hazard, correctly fitted and maintained in serviceable condition.

Cement and Concrete Safety

Cement and wet concrete can present health risks.

Contact with wet cement or concrete may cause serious skin irritation or chemical burns.

Dust from dry cementitious materials may irritate the eyes and respiratory system.

Operators should:

  • avoid unnecessary skin contact;

  • avoid getting wet concrete inside gloves or footwear;

  • protect the eyes from splashes and dust;

  • minimise dust generation;

  • follow the safety information supplied with the materials being mixed; and

  • wash affected skin promptly in accordance with appropriate first-aid guidance.

Always consult the safety information supplied by the manufacturer of the cement, concrete mix, additives or other materials being used.

Loading the Mixer

Load materials only in accordance with the manufacturer’s operating instructions.

Do not:

  • overload the machine;

  • place hands or tools into hazardous moving areas;

  • attempt to defeat guards or safety features;

  • climb onto the machine; or

  • use loading methods that make the equipment unstable.

Maintain safe control of bags, aggregates and other materials while loading.

Manual-handling risks should be considered when lifting or moving heavy materials.

Moving Parts

Keep hands, clothing, tools and other objects away from moving components.

Loose clothing, jewellery, long hair and unsecured items may become caught in machinery.

Do not reach into moving machinery.

Never remove guards or bypass safety devices in order to clear material while the machine is operating.

Blockages

If the mixer becomes blocked, jammed or operates abnormally:

  1. stop the machine;

  2. disconnect it safely from the electrical supply;

  3. wait for moving components to come to a complete stop;

  4. follow the manufacturer’s procedure for clearing the blockage; and

  5. inspect the equipment before restarting.

Never attempt to clear a blockage while machinery is operating or capable of unexpected movement.

Cleaning the MudMixer Evolution

Regular cleaning is important for safe operation and equipment life.

Concrete should not be allowed to harden inside or on operating components.

Before cleaning:

  • stop the machine;

  • disconnect it from the electrical supply where instructed;

  • secure it against unexpected operation; and

  • follow the manufacturer’s cleaning procedure.

Take particular care to prevent inappropriate water exposure to electrical components.

Do not use cleaning methods that conflict with the manufacturer’s instructions.

Maintenance

Maintenance should be carried out in accordance with the manufacturer’s recommended schedule.

Before maintenance or adjustment:

  • stop the equipment;

  • disconnect it from its power source;

  • ensure moving parts have stopped; and

  • prevent accidental reconnection or start-up.

Worn or damaged components should be replaced before further operation where they affect safe use.

Maintenance involving electrical or safety-critical components should be undertaken by a suitably competent person.

Replacement Parts

Replacement parts must be suitable for the relevant Product and model.

Where safety-critical components are involved, use parts approved or specified for the Product.

Incorrect parts or incorrect installation may affect:

  • safe operation;

  • Product performance;

  • reliability; and

  • warranty coverage.

Chute and Hopper Extensions

Accessories such as the Chute Extension and Hopper Extension must be correctly fitted before operation.

Before use:

  • confirm the accessory is compatible with the Product;

  • follow the relevant installation instructions;

  • ensure all fasteners and retaining components are secure; and

  • check that the accessory does not interfere with guards or controls.

Do not operate the machine with an accessory that is damaged, insecure or incorrectly installed.

All-Weather Cover

An All-Weather Cover is intended to help protect equipment during appropriate storage conditions.

A cover does not make electrically powered equipment suitable for unsafe operation in rain, standing water or other conditions prohibited by the manufacturer’s instructions.

Ensure equipment is appropriately prepared before covering and storing it.

Do not cover equipment in a way that creates an electrical, heat or other safety hazard.

Slurry Tub Cleaning Equipment

The Slurry Tub is intended to assist with the controlled cleaning of tools and equipment contaminated with concrete residue.

Use the equipment in accordance with its instructions.

Concrete wash water and slurry can be highly alkaline and may contain suspended solids and contaminants.

Avoid unnecessary skin and eye contact and use appropriate PPE.

Concrete Slurry and Wash Water

Concrete slurry and wash water must be handled responsibly.

Do not discharge concrete wash water or slurry into:

  • surface-water drains;

  • watercourses;

  • streams;

  • rivers; or

  • other locations where discharge is prohibited.

Users are responsible for complying with applicable environmental requirements and site waste-management procedures.

Allowing cementitious waste to enter drainage systems or the natural environment may cause environmental harm.

Chemical Products

If any cleaning agent, treatment or other chemical product is supplied or used with equipment, follow the manufacturer’s:

  • label instructions;

  • hazard warnings;

  • Safety Data Sheet (SDS), where applicable;

  • storage instructions; and

  • disposal requirements.

Never mix chemical products unless their instructions expressly permit it.

Transport and Manual Handling

Some Products may be heavy or awkward to move.

Before lifting or moving equipment:

  • assess its weight and dimensions;

  • plan the movement;

  • use appropriate lifting or handling equipment where necessary;

  • secure loose components; and

  • obtain assistance where appropriate.

Do not attempt to manually lift an item beyond your safe capability.

When transporting equipment in a vehicle, secure it appropriately against movement.

Storage

Store Products in accordance with the manufacturer’s instructions.

Before storage:

  • clean the equipment appropriately;

  • remove concrete residue;

  • inspect for damage;

  • allow appropriate components to dry;

  • secure electrical cables; and

  • protect equipment from unsuitable environmental conditions.

Keep powered equipment secure from unauthorised use.

Faults and Abnormal Operation

Stop using the Product immediately if you observe:

  • smoke;

  • burning smells;

  • overheating;

  • electrical arcing;

  • repeated electrical protection-device operation;

  • unusual vibration;

  • abnormal mechanical noise;

  • damaged guards;

  • damaged cables or plugs;

  • loss of control; or

  • any other indication that continued operation may be unsafe.

Disconnect the Product safely and arrange appropriate inspection before further use.

Do not continue operating equipment simply to complete a job where a safety-related fault is suspected.

Repairs and Modifications

Do not carry out unauthorised modifications to the MudMixer Evolution or other Products.

Repairs affecting electrical systems, guards, structural components, controls or other safety-critical systems should be performed by a suitably competent person using appropriate parts.

Unauthorised modification may create serious safety risks and may affect warranty coverage.

Product Safety Incident Reporting

If you believe a Product supplied by Mudmixer UK Ltd:

  • has caused an injury;

  • has suffered a significant safety-related failure;

  • presents an unexpected safety risk; or

  • may contain a serious safety defect,

stop using the Product where appropriate and contact us promptly.

Please retain the Product and relevant components unless disposal is necessary to prevent an immediate danger.

Where possible, provide:

  • your order number;

  • Product model;

  • serial number;

  • photographs or video;

  • a description of what happened;

  • details of any injury or damage; and

  • information about the conditions in which the Product was being used.

This information can help us investigate the incident and, where appropriate, take corrective action.

Product Recalls and Safety Notices

Where we become aware of a relevant Product safety notice, corrective action or recall affecting a Product we have supplied, we may contact affected customers using the contact information associated with their purchase.

Customers should therefore keep their contact details reasonably up to date.

If you sell or transfer a Product to another person, we recommend retaining sufficient information to enable relevant safety information to be passed to the new owner.

Warranty and Safety

Our commercial warranty does not remove the user’s responsibility to operate and maintain equipment safely.

Damage resulting from misuse, unauthorised modification, unsuitable electrical supply, incorrect maintenance or failure to follow operating instructions may not be covered by the warranty.

Nothing in this section affects statutory rights that cannot lawfully be excluded or restricted.

Consumer Rights

This Product Safety Information does not affect your statutory rights.

Products supplied to Consumers must meet the requirements imposed by applicable UK consumer law.
